For most shift workers, the best coffee is the one that combines dependable flavour with a brewing method that fits the job. A roast with chocolate, caramel or nutty notes can work particularly well when you want a rich, straightforward cup without needing a complicated setup.

Grinding immediately before brewing is ideal when practical. If that is not realistic at work, choosing the right grind for your brewer and keeping the coffee sealed between uses will make life easier.
Night shift coffee: timing matters
Coffee can be useful during long or overnight shifts, but more is not automatically better. Caffeine can remain in the body for hours, so drinking coffee late in a shift may make it harder to sleep when you finally get home. If sleep after work is a priority, consider moving your last caffeinated coffee earlier and switching to water or a non-caffeinated drink later in the shift.
Dark roast or medium roast?
This mostly comes down to taste. Choose a darker roast if you enjoy a heavier, bolder cup, especially with milk. Choose a medium roast if you prefer a smoother profile that works well across black coffee, espresso and milk-based drinks.
